Functional assessment: specificity of young patients

219

There is a pre and a post operative version of

the questionnaire, as the patient expectations

section changes following surgical intervention.

This expectation section concerns pain, activi

ties of daily living and sports participation.

The new IKS score is more reliable, compre

hensive and is suitable for young patients. It

eliminates the need to combine several scores,

although psycho-social aspects are still poorly

evaluated. The various test scores (objective,

expectations, satisfaction and function) are

presented separately.

Conclusion

In the field of degenerative pathology of the

knee, assessment tools are numerous. For the

young patient, however, few scores are suitable

for the evaluation of function, particularly with

regard to sporting activities. This usually

requires a combination of different scores. For

simplicity, and in order to increase the reliability

of these tests, the trend is to develop new, easy

to use, self-administered questionnaires,

including further assessment of sporting

activity.
